An obituary in the Washington Post on November 18, 1948, stated that his remains had been returned to the states for burial. It stated that he died 'with the (U.S.) Armed Forces overseas'. An earlier story in the Post, dated Dec. 16,1943, detailed how he had only been overseas two months and was assigned to a field artillery battalion. He was employed by IBM before he entered the U.S. Army for training during the war. He earned several medals for marksmanship prior to going overseas. He had asked for some items for Christmas and several packages had been sent just before his mother got the Army telegram notifying her of his demise.

The National WW II Memorial website shows he was 'killed in action' (KIA) on Nov. 9, 1943 in Italy.

The National Archives has him listed as KIA.
ID: 33454009

He was a native of Washington, D.C. and the son of Carl & Mary Carson, also of this city. He had 2 siblings: William T. Carson and Mrs. Earl Martin.
