Glen Hagen December 11th, 1950 - January 20th, 2012 Glen was born in San Diego, on December 11th, 1950 to Earl Francis and Barbara Helen. Glen grew up on 34th street with his younger brother David Arthur. With his family, he was part of First Lutheran Church and attended Edison Elementary, Wilson Junior High, and Hoover High School where he lettered in swimming and gymnastics. As Glen was growing up, he enjoyed making radios and other electrical things, as well as reading and listening to music. Glen raised Amber Dawn (Aimee) as a single father while putting himself through college and working to provide for his daughter. Glen spent 10 years pursuing his college degree. He attended UCSD and SDSU, graduating with a B.S. in computer science in 1979. Upon graduation, Glen transitioned into computer programming at NCR. He enjoyed a long and successful career with NCR, forging new ground in the data storage arena. In the early 1970s, Glen began attending Gethsemane Lutheran Church where he sang in the choir, served on the council, assisted at worship, and was a friend to many. Glen married Carmen Joy on September 23rd, 1978 at Gethsemane Lutheran Church. Their wedding day was such an unusually hot day that the flowers started to melt off of the cake, something Glen and Carmen always laughed about. Glen and Carmen welcomed their daughter, Sara Michelle, in 1981. Glen has two beautiful grandchildren Ethan Henry and Keira Grace, whom he loved dearly. Glen had many accomplishments throughout his life. A few of his most memorable achievements are the Blood Bank 50 Gallon Club, regular donation of white blood cells, and singing in the Lutheran Chorale and Norwegian Mannskor. In the mid 1990s, Glen was honored at Hoover High School with a plaque for The Best of the 1960s. Glen was also rewarded by NCR with a trip to Barcelona, Spain in 1998 for himself and Carmen. He received an R award from NCR for his hard work and dedication. Glen set aside time every year to take his family on annual summer vacations. Family time meant a lot to him. Glen was home every night, which was one of many actions he intentionally took to provide stability and be actively involved in his family life. As children, Amber and Sara didn't realize the importance of these choices. However, as adults, both are exceedingly grateful for the time Glen invested in both of their lives. Up until Glen's passing on January 20th, 2012, he was a loving husband, father, brother, and son. He made his family feel so special and so loved. He finally lost his fight with the devastating disease Alzheimers after being diagnosed in 2006. We know he will again be able to sing with the voice of an Angel, dance like Fred Astaire, and laugh again with his heart full of love. Although Glen will be greatly missed, we take solace in knowing he is finally at peace. We will see Glen again when we meet him in Heaven.
