Paul John Breillat was born to John Breillat and Sarah Hendebourck. He was called, John. John married Sophia James (1805-1877). John also married Mary Holbrook (1771-1839) and had 6 children:

William Myles Breillat
John Breillat was a silk dyer who moved to Bristol from London in 1811. By 1816, after seeing a demonstration of gas lighting in Birmingham, he set up the Bristol Gas Lighting Company. By 1820 this company was lighting most of the city's main streets with coal gas. He passed away on 14 Apr 1856.
