Son of artist Nathan Cooper Branwhite. He studied under his father, first as a sculptor. He then became a Landscape Painter. He was the intimate friend of William Muller (1812-1845) and worked much with him. In 1849 he became an associate of the Old Water Colour Society, but never passed to full membership.
He Married twice. After his first wife died he married a widow named Mary Ann Cook Mayes, daughter of John Cook.
Some of his most striking landscapes represent frost scenes. Among his works are: Post Haste, April Showers on the Eastern Coast, An old Lime-kiln, Kilgarren Castle, Winter Sunset, Old Salmon Trap on the Conway, The Environs of an Ancient Garden, 1852, A Frozen Ferry, 1853 (this and the previous picture received prizes from the Glasgow Art Union), Ferry on the Thames (at the London International Exhibition, 1862), A Black Frost, Snow Storm, North Wales, Salmon Poaching, and On the River Dee, North Wales."
