Dorothy Helen Dexter Whitesitt Viehweg
SPOKANE – Dorothy Helen (Dexter) Whitesitt Viehweg, a longtime Bitterroot resident, went to be with her Lord on Jan. 5, 2013, in Spokane.
She was born Sept. 17, 1913, in Britt, Iowa, to Lyman and Carrie Dexter. The family moved from Britt to Stevensville, where Dorothy grew up and completed her education at Stevensville High School.
She met and married Ralph Whitesitt. They were wed June 21, 1934. Dorothy and Ralph adopted one son, Roy Whitesitt. She and Ralph lived most of their life in the Bitterroot Valley, but spent time in Rice, Wash., and Wenatchee, Wash. Dorothy and Ralph spent time in Deer Lodge, where Ralph's occupation as a stockman took them to various ranches in the Northwest.
Dorothy married Paul Viehweg on March 19, 1988, in Missoula. They ranched on Lost Horse Road south of Hamilton.
After Paul Viehweg passed away, she became a resident at Sapphire Lutheran Homes in Hamilton. She had just recently moved to Spokane to be closer to family.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Lyman and Carrie Dexter; sisters, Mary, Emma, Mertie, Nora and Viola; brother, Henry; son, Roy; and husbands, Ralph Whitesitt and Paul Viehweg. Survivors include her granddaughters, Carol Miller and Debra Kay Miller.
Dorothy loved her church and church family at Grace Lutheran Church and eagerly looked forward to Sunday mornings. Her church family, along with the Lindquist and Quaintance families, were loving friends in Hamilton.
She will be missed by her family and friends.
A memorial to celebrate Dorothy's life will be held on March 2 at 1 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Hamilton.
