Brandy was only five weeks old when we drove to Lemoore to pick a mate for Captain. We had planned to go back in a week or two to bring her home. During our visit, the owner told us the mother was worn out from caring for a litter of eight and had pretty much quit nursing them. She had already started the pups on a frequent feeding schedule of a gruel mixture recommended by the Vet. She thought Brandy would be fine going home with us that day and offered to send enough dry food to last a few days until we could purchase our own.
And home she came. And often she ate. Every four hours for a couple of weeks, then gradually tapering off on the frequency. She was a little beauty; healthy and funny, and strong-willed. Captain had more than met his match, but they were good company to each other for the most part. Captain was passive by nature and over time, Brandy became the dominate dog. Captain was my baby, Brandy's heart belonged to my husband.
