While a young man, he became a member of the Westland Friends Church under the ministry of John Henry Douglas, of which he remained a consistent member. In early life he took an active part in church work, and was an inspiration to all who heard him and surley those vows were not forgotten in later years.
He spent his entire life in Logan County and around Pickrelltown. He was a man highly respected and well liked by all who knew him. Until poor health overtook him he took an active part in the community.
