Enlisted 6-24-61.
Promoted 12-9-62 to Corporal.
POW 11-25-63 at Missionary Ridge, TN.
Died as a POW 7-9-64 at Andersonville Prison, GA. Interred National Cemetery at Andersonville, GA

Silas enlisted as a 23 yr. old resident of Prairie View, Ringgold Co., Iowa on June 24,1861 in Co. B, 5th Iowa Infantry. He was taken prisoner Nov.25,1863 at the Battle of Tunnel Hill (Mission Ridge) Tn.
He was promoted 1st Corporal after his capture on Dec.1,1863.
He died of scorbutus at Andersonville prison on Aug.9,1864 (according to prison records) and was buried in grave # 5101.
