Services for Tommie Cook, 87, of Thorndale will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, 2009, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home with Rev. Garfield Griffin of Lubbock officiating. Burial will be in New Oak Lawn Cemetery.

Mr. Cook died Monday, Feb. 23, at his home in Thorndale.

A Thorndale resident since September 1961, he was born June 2, 1921, in Ellis County to Walter Cook Jr. and Rosanna Deckard.

He married Idella "Tot" Porter on July 10, 1942, in Waxahachie.

Mr. Cook was a farmer and worked for Centex Oil Mill in Thorndale for 13 years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Idella "Tot" Cook, on Oct. 7, 2006; his parents; two daughters, Josephine Mitchell and Ola Mae Cook; a grandson, Thomas Bacey; nine brothers, Arizona, Walter Jr., Ben, Eddie, L.D., Willie, L.B., Joe Terry and Terry Lee Cook; and two sisters, Louella Goodman and Almeter Ruth.

Survivors are four sons, Francis Cook and wife Cherylyn of Taylor, Cecil Cook and wife Margie of Thorndale, Vernon Cook and wife Sherri of Taylor, Allen Porter Jr. of Fort Worth; four daughters, Shirley Ann Mitchell and husband Herbert, Earnestine Cook and Ethel Cook, and Tommie Faye Fair, all of Thorndale, Joyce Hodge and husband Rick of Lincoln; a stepdaughter, Darlene Garrett of Hillsboro; and six sisters, Myrtle Cook of Milford, Jo Ethel Porter of Fort Worth, Ethel Mae Bracken, Cardie Cook, Janie Bracken and Morene Hill, all of Hubbard; also, 24 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and 18 great-great-grandchildren.
