Son of Alexander Markland McIver and Mary Hanford. Commanded James Is. during bombardment of Ft. Moultrie (See Sat Eve Post 11 Aug 1928). Served in VA, succeeded Col Dargon there when the latter was killed.
Married Harriet LaCoste (1826-1903) on 31 Oct 1845.
