Parkis Bill Compton, 75, lost his courageous fight against pancreatic cancer at home with his family and entered the gates of heaven on October 1, 2011. He was born August 12, 1936, son of Willy Floyd and Lacey Compton. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Connie Viers, and his brother, Don Compton.
Bill was a true gentle mountain man whose passion and spirit was evident to all who knew him. Bill served his nation proudly in the United States Air Force and later started and served as president of Compton Contracting Company which he dedicated his life to. He enjoyed many outdoor activities such as gardening, hunting and woodworking. He loved spending time with his family and friends listening to bluegrass music, and could often be found on a backhoe, taking on his latest project. He also enjoyed spending time sitting with his favorite dog Badger, looking out over the pond at his log home, which was the culmination of his dreams.
He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Linda Compton, son, Harry Compton and his wife Kathy, son David Compton and his wife Laura, daughter Penny Campbell and her husband Dale, daughter Pamela Bohr and husband Gary, and son, Jason Dalton and wife Missy. He is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Mavis and Robert Honaker, brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Ruby Compton, brother and sister-in-law, Walker and Betty Compton and sister, Peggy Gerke. He is survived by 5 grandchildren: Patrick Compton, Hannah Lewis, Mary Beth Wells, Sarah Anne Wells, and Zachary Dalton and one great-grandson, Kenneth Lewis. He also had many treasured nieces, nephews and special friends that he loved dearly.
Funeral service will be 1:00 pm Monday, October 3, 2011 at M. L. Ford & Sons Funeral Home, 4820 Charlotte Hwy., Lake Wylie, SC 29710. The family will receive friends from 6 pm until 9 pm Sunday October 2, 2011 at M. L. Ford & Sons Funeral Home, Lake Wylie. Entombment will be 3:00 pm Monday at Crown Memorial Park, Pineville, NC.

Note: I went to elementary and high school with Billy. He was two years ahead of me but graduated with two of my brothers, Everett and Earnest Rice. I only saw him a couple of times after graduation. He entered the Air Force after high school.
