|Death: ||Sep. 21, 1861|
Andrew was the a son of Martha ( MARTIN ) [daughter of Sarah ( HAWKS ) and James MARTIN, natives of England, who emigrated to America in 1820] and John C. CALDWELL [son of Charles and Isabel Caldwell, from PA].
Martha and John C.'s children were Sarah, Isabel, James, Charles, Martin Van B., Jane, Catharine, Andrew J., John,
Knox D. and Elizabeth (twins), David T. and Fremont who married Susan Janette (CALDWELL) [daughter of Sarah Ann ( CREAGER ) and Rev. Capt. David S. CALDWELL].
Martha and John had at least three sons who died in the Civil War.
Dorence Atwater was a fellow prisoner put in charge of
keeping the records of the dead. This is his record and your ancestor is entered as A. F. Caldwell on page 45. The Andrew Caldwell record I show was reported to Atwater, by those who took his body to the deadhouse as A. F. Caldwell. Those who took him there either didn't know his first name and told what they thought or the handwritten records were mis-read. The Ohio Roster verifies that the body of reported A. F. Caldwell is actually Andrew Caldwell of the 3rd Ohio. - Kevin Frye, GA
