Staff Sergeant Jeffrey Alan Hall, 27, of Huntsville, Alabama. Born and raised in Huntsville, he attended Grace Lutheran School, Grissom High School and Huntsville Christian Academy. Growing up he knew he would someday serve his country in the military. He wore camouflage and compelled his parents into playing Army with him. His dad was the sergeant, his mom the cook. His dream came true when he joined the Army in August 2000 and went on to serve at Fort Benning, Georgia, and Camp Merrill in Dahlonega, Ga., before coming to Fort Drum, NY, in October 2005. Jeffrey had two previous deployments to Afghanistan, December 2001 to April 2002 and January 2006 to May 2007. While stationed there at Fort Drum, he met the woman of his dreams, Allison, Jeffrey wanted a woman who was "sassy, tall, brunette, beautiful and could put up with him." He left on a tour of duty and they grew closer while he was gone. They kept saying to each other "Just have faith." They married in 2007 when he returned and their daughter was born a year and a day later. Currently assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 87th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry) Fort Drum, he deployed to Afghanistan in January of 2009. He died along with two other soldiers on June 1 in Nerkh, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near their vehicle. SSGT Hall's awards and decorations include two Army Commendation Medals, two Army Achievement Medals, two Army Good Conduct Medals, the National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, NATO Medal, Ranger Tab, Combat Infantryman Badge, Parachutist Badge and Senior Parachutist Badge. He was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star, posthumously. Jeffrey was a graduate of the Ranger Course, Airborne Course, Jumpmaster Course and Warrior Leader Course.
