Robert Eric "Rick" Chandler passed away peacefully Oct. 25, 2009, surrounded by his family, at the young age of 53. He was born Aug. 19, 1956, in Washington, D.C., and was raised in Bonifay and Ft. Walton Beach, Fla. Rick moved to Las Vegas in 1979, where shortly thereafter he met and married his wife, Kelley. Rick was a dedicated carpenter foreman and a member of the Carpenters Union 1977 for over 23 years. His passions in life were his family, friends, softball, fishing, hunting, the Miami Dolphins and the Atlanta Braves. Rick was entered into the Softball Hall of Fame in 1987 for home runs hit during a nationally sanctioned world finals tournament in Dallas. At the age of 50, he began playing senior softball, which reunited him with all of his softball family and friends. If there was a bat, a fishing pole or a shotgun in his hands, there was a smile on his face. He was a friend to many who could be counted on at any time or place. The proudest moments in his life were on the days that his two sons, Eric and Jason were born. There was never a day or a moment that he was not filled with pride that he was their daddy. Rick is survived by his wife, of over 25 years, Kelley; sons, Eric Curtis Chandler and Jason Robert Chandler, all of Las Vegas; sisters, Diana (Teddy) Mills, Ginny (Tom) Purcell and Mary Pierce, of Ft. Walton Beach; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Carl "Corky" and Rosie Huntly; brothers-in-law, Bob (Mary) Huntly, Matt (Lisa) Huntly and Clint Huntly, all of Las Vegas; many aunts, uncles, nieces and a nephew; and many, many friends who he loved and considered family as well. A celebration of Rick's life will be at 3 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, at Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. N. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Rick Chandler's name, to Creekside Hospice, 3675 Pecos McLeod, Suite 900, Las Vegas, NV 89121.
