Harry M. Holmes
Harry Merle Holmes, son of Elmer A. and Maude Wilcox Holmes, was born July 4, 1907 at Deshler, NE and died September 27, 2001 at the Blue Valley Care Home in Hebron, NE. He was 94.
He was baptized at the Christian Church, Chester, NE. He attended country school, Byron Public School and graduated from Deshler High School in 1926.
He was united in marriage to Evelyn Harmes, Jan. 3, 1935 at the Christian Parsonage in Chester, NE and to this union five children were born.
He farmed near Byron, NE for 21 years before moving to a farm near Davenport, NE where they lived until they retired in 1976 and moved to Hebron, NE. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Hebron, the Davenport Lions Club and a lifetime resident of Thayer County.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Joan Hobelman; one brother, Melvin Holmes; one sister, Edith Johnson; son-in-law, Frank M. Kester; and brother-in-law, Lloyd Derowitsch.
He is survived by his wife of Hebron; two sons, Elmer of Byron, NE and Don of Davenport, NE; two daughters Julia Bryant, Hebron, NE and Cynthia Meade, Normal IL; nine grandchildren, two step grandchildren and three step great grandchildren.
Services were held at the Hebron Presbyterian Church, October 1 with Rev. Warren Schoming officiating.
Burial was at Chester City Cemetery, Chester, NE.
