JoAnne B. Booher of Springfield, Missouri, departed this life on Saturday, November 7, 2009. She was born in Morrisville, Missouri, on April 23, 1931, to George Robert and Ruby Eulalia (Ross) Booher.
She attended Marion C. Early Schools for 10 years. When JoAnne was 16, her family moved to Springfield and she finished high school at Springfield Senior High in 1949. JoAnne received a two year scholarship to Southwest Missouri State, where she graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education in 1953. She was a life member of the Home Economics Honor Society, Kappa Omicron Phi (name changed later to Omicron Nu), and the Home Economics Club. JoAnne received a Gregory Scholarship at Missouri University, where she got her Master's in Education Degree in 1960. She taught 10 years in Marionville and Houston, Missouri high schools and SMSU. She also was a State Department of Education employee for eight years as a State Supervisor of Vocational Home Economics for Southeast Missouri.
In her youth, JoAnne accepted the Lord as her savior and joined Benton Avenue Methodist Church. At her death, she was a member of Antioch United Methodist Church, where she was a faithful member.
JoAnne was a member of three different chapters of Delta Kappa Gamma for 37 years, Xi Omega and Alpha Gamma Chapters. Other organizations she belonged to include Springfield Area Retired Teachers, MS, DAR, HEIH and LA/FRA. She was presented a state honorary membership in FHA in 1964. She loved to travel, garden, take photographs and to enter items at the Ozark Empire Fair. JoAnne established a perpetual scholarship for training teachers in vocational Home Economics (now called FACS) at SMSU in 1983. One or more scholarships has been awarded every year since 1983 (total of 29 scholarships so far).
JoAnne married Kenneth James Booher in 1973, and enjoyed being a full-time homemaker. Kenneth preceded her in death in 1997.
She has two sons and their spouses, Dan and Karrolyn Booher of Delafield, Wisconsin, along with three grandchildren, Bryce, Bradley and Kimberly Jo Booher; and Kenneth John and Larissa Booher of Manchester, New Hampshire; and many cousins and friends. A special church friend is Judy Scott, who accompanied JoAnne on doctor's visits in her last days.
Funeral services will be held in Klingner-Cope Family Funeral Home at Midtown, 1635 North Benton, Springfield, Mo., on Wednesday, November 11, 2009, at 10 a.m., with burial to follow in Morrisville Cemetery. A visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, November 10, 2009, from 6 to 8 p.m.
