B.C. Quinn was a native of Baxley, Georgia and a Merchant Marine of World War II. He retired from CSX Railroad in 1989 after 39 years of service.
He was a long-time member and a deacon at First Baptist Church, Lithia Springs, where he and Roberta served as Sunday School teachers for many years.
He was also chairman of the church ushers and was lovingly known at church as "The Chewing Gum Man", as the children of the church ran to greet him each Sunday for a hug and to receive their chewing gum.
B.C. and Roberta received the award as "Volunteers of the Year" in 2001 by the United Way in Douglas County.
Survivors include his wife, Roberta Dean-Quinn; daughter, Cynthia & Reggie Adamson of Sautee=Nacoochee, Ga.; son, Calvin & Donna Quinn of Douglasville; sister, Geraldine Sellers of Blakely, Ga.;brothers, Will Quinn and Tendel & Betty Quinn of Baxley, Ga,; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
