Thomas was born seven years after the birth of George Washington and four years before the birth of Thomas Jefferson. At that time it was unusual for a person to have a middle name, but Thomas later proved to be an unusual person. At the age of 20, in 1759, he graduated from Harvard University. He returned to New Braintree and became a merchant, a teacher, town clerk and town assessor. In 1777 he moved to Barnard, Vermont where he was the town clerk from 1778 to 1785.
He was 26 when the Revoluntionary War started in 1775. With his education and roles of leadership you would expect him to be an officer, but the only record found was T. W. White, private.
In 1764 he married Naomi Wood Wright. They had 11 children; 5 were born in New Braintree and 6 in Barnard. Naomi died in 1798. The following year, 1799, Thomas, 4 sons, a daughter and their families, 18 in the group migrated to the Northwest Territory. The place they settled became part of the stste of Ohio in 1803.
