Iowa Governor. He was a member of the Iowa State House of Representatives in 1858 and from 1884 to 1886, and Governor from 1872 to 1876. Carpenter then served as railroad commisssioner of Iowa in 1878 and postmaster of Fort Dodge from 1889 to 1893. (bio by: Tom Denardo)
