Willa Garrison Biggs, 93, a resident of Hoquiam for 80 years, passed away on Saturday, July 28, 2007, at Grays Harbor Community Hospital in Aberdeen. She was born on Aug. 2, 1913, in Wayne County, Mo., to David L. and Laura (Vincent) Garrison. She was the youngest of 10 children.
She came to Hoquiam in 1926, as a young girl and attended Hoquiam schools. In 1930, she married Clyde Biggs in Montesano. He died in 1992.
She worked at Grays Harbor Veneer for many years. In 1929, she was one of the original "Spruce Bathing Suit Girls". She also worked at the Langendorf Bakery Thrift store from which she retired in 1973.
Mrs. Biggs was a lifetime member of the Hoquiam Eagles Auxiliary; a charter member of Retired Eagles Activity Club and floor drill team. She was a member of Grays Harbor Rain Dodgers Camping Club; the Ancient Order of United Workmen Lodge; the Veneer Lunch Bunch; Royal Neighbors of America Lodge; a member of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program, the Grays Harbor Senior Travel Club and the Y.M.C.A. Travel Club.
Mrs. Biggs enjoyed hunting, fishing, clam digging, traveling, crocheting and volunteer work at the Hoquiam Senior Center, which she was chosen volunteer of the year in 1999. She also enjoyed working in her yard with her many flowers.
She enjoyed her children and grandchildren very much and loved to prepare special dinners for them.
