Andrew Jackson Garrison
Birth: 1830
White County
Tennessee, USA
Death: Feb. 9, 1885
Madison County
Arkansas, USA

Andrew Jackson Garrison was born to Obediah Garrison and Elizabeth Calling West in White County, Tennessee in 1830. They were a farming family but not much is known about them except that they lived near Liberty, Dekalb County, Tennessee and raised a large family.
Andrew was a captain in the Civil War, sustained injuries in the war and ultimately died of those injuries many years later. He was married to Narcissa Pridy and they had four children: Sarah Elizabeth, Matilda Jane, Martha (Mattie) Samantha, and Andrew Jackson Garrison, Jr. This marriage ended in divorce.
Andrew remarried to Glatha Jane Allison of Putnam County, Tennessee. They had the following children:
Mary Matilda or Elizabeth, Charlie Obedier, William Matthias, my grandfather,Robert Mansfield Garrison,
Bessie Maude and James LaFate Garrison.

An old letter from Glatha Jane in Madison County, Arkansas in 1885, just after the death of her husband, is truly sad. She writes to her mother telling her about the children going to their father's grave and crying over his grave and wanting him to come back to them. Glatha Jane tryed to take care of her family but she weakened and died the next year after the death of her beloved husband. All six of the children, now without their parents, were taken back to Tennessee by an uncle and they were raised by Glatha's mother, Elizabeth Peggy Clark Allison Butler, a widow who had remarried. This was a huge undertaking for her at an older age. The old home still stands in Putnam County, Tennessee.
God bless this family who knew so much happiness together and so much heartache when they were separated. They lived near Wesley, Madison County, Arkansas and their graves have not been located at this time. However, we believe they were buried on their property, near their home as Glatha Jane wrote of the children going to the grave.
