Jack worked as an accountant/bookkeeper for American Steel & Wire in Cleveland, Ohio. He was also a piano teacher. Jack's great-niece, Edna Lu, recalls him playing the piano and "all of us singing 'Beer Barrel Polka,'" and that he could "pound out any tune." He played in several taverns, including a club in Parma, and also at Fickel's Tavern in Wickliffe (owned by his brother-in-law Frank, Mayor of Wickliffe). Jack died of a heart attack while he and Dorothy were out driving, passing away within minutes of the onset. Jack had blue eyes and light red hair, was slender and of medium build.
