Lucy Knight was born January 16, 1863, in Plain City, Utah, the fifth of eleven children born to Alonzo Knight and Catherine Meguire.
She married Robert Eames on March 29, 1880, and they were blessed with twelve children: Emma Elizabeth, Alonzo, Robert, Lucy, Alice, Ruby, William, Marion, George, Viola, Mary and Opal. Daughter Elizabeth writes, "Of all the fine traits of character Mother possessed, unselfishness would be the outstanding virtue. She was always ready to sacrifice, to work and give and serve for the gospel and her fellow man. She was a woman of great faith, courage and understanding."
After Robert's death in 1937, Lucy moved to Salt Lake City where she spent the remaining 11 years of her life working in the temple. She died December 7, 1948, at the age of 85 years 10 months and 21 days.
A Utah pioneer, Mrs. Lucy Knight Eames, 85, of 37 North West Temple, Salt Lake City, widow of Robert J. Eames, formerly of Harrisville, died in an Ogden hospital Tuesday at 5 p.m. of causes incident to age.
Mrs. Eames was born in Plain City, January 18, 1883, a daughter of Alonzo and Catherine Meguire Knight. Her early life was spent in Plain City. In 1884 she was married to Mr. Eames in the L.D.S. Salt Lake Endowment house and they moved to Almo, Ida. They were pioneers in that district.
She was president of the Raft River, Ida., stake relief society when it was organized and was active in other church organizations.
For the past 12 years she devoted full time to temple and genealogical work. Following the death of Mr. Eames, June 26, 1937, she resided in Salt Lake City and was a member of the Seventeenth ward.
Surviving are eight of her 12 sons and daughters: Mrs. Louis King, Raymond, Alberta, Canada, Mrs. Wesley McMullen, Canada; Mrs. Lucy Stout, Portland, Ore., Mrs. Asael Ward, Almo, Ida., Mrs. Alvin Blackburn, Porterville, Calif., William H. Eames, Mrs. Martin Harris and Mrs. Melton Shurtliff, Ogden; 51 grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Julia Eames, Almo, Ida., and two brothers, Mark and Marion Knight, Plain City.
Services will be conducted Thursday at two p.m. at the mortuary, 3408 Washington, Ogden, by Bishop William S. Costley of the Harrisville ward. Burial will be in Plain City cemetery.
