Catherine Stephens was born on June 15, 1828 in Cornwall, England. She came to America around 1842 with her parents. She married Joseph Tregay on December 2, 1843. They lived in Pottsville. Not long after their daughter, Mary, was born on January 3, 1845, Joseph Tregay died.
On November 2, 1848, at Garvios, Missouri, Catherine married James Eames. He raised her three-year-old daughter as his own child. At first they lived in St. Louis and James worked as a teamster. They moved to Lincoln County near Troy, Missouri. James used his stonemason trade in 1860 and then he bought a farm before 1870. He had a full life and enjoyed his children and many grandchildren. At the age of 71, James Eames died on March 19, 1889. He was buried in the Troy City Cemetery.
After the death of her husband, Catherine stayed with her son, Charles Eames and his wife. Later she spent a lot of time in Troy with her daughter and son-in-law, Mary and William Colbert. Catherine died on October 19, 1910 at the age of 86.
James and Catherine's children were Jane Eames Witt, Addie Eames Owings, Charles Eames and Samuel Eames.
