2nd of 6 known children of Nathaniel Bassett & Margaret {Armstrong} Bassett; Spencer married Phoebe LeBow, daughter of John Adam LeBow & Catharine {Gray} LeBow, on September 20, 1814 in Grainger County, Tennessee. Spencer & Phoebe had 8 known children.

Spencer Bassett served in the War of 1812, with the 2nd Regiment of the East TN Volunteers, Mounted Riflemen, under Col Samuel Bunch. Their most famous engagement was the Battle of Horseshoe Bend in TN, on March 27, 1814.
