Lloyd C. Cook, 85, of Sweetser died Monday morning, December 15, 2008, at his residence. He was born in Marion, Ind., Jan 26, 1923, to the late William Francis "Frank" and Florence Maddy Cook. He married Doris Marie Horning on December 18, 1947. She survives.

He was an industrial arts and history teacher and previously taught at Sweetser High School. He retired from Oak Hill High School.

He was a member of Sweetser United Methodist Church, Swayzee Masonic Lodge No. 637 F&AM, was active in Mississinewa 1812 and was a member of American Legion. He served on the Indiana State Teachers Association board of directors and Marion School Employees FCU board of directors.

He graduated from Ball State Teacher's College, with a master's degree in teacher education. He was a World War II veteran of the United States Army, serving from 1943 to 1945 in the Southwest Pacific, HW BTRY 224th AAA S/L BN.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Rybolt Chapel, 314 N. Washington St. in Swayzee, with Pastor Jeff Herron officiating. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday. A Masonic memorial service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Maple Grove Cemetery in Sweetser.

Mr. Cook is survived by his wife; a daughter, Lana M. (Paul) Kruse of Lebanon; sons, Lloyd O. Cook of Evans, Ga., and Douglas A. (Denise) Cook of Lansing, Kan.; a brother, Kenneth L. (Ruth) Cook of Paoli; and grandchildren, Elise M. Baker of New York, Alexander S. Kruse of Indianapolis, Rachel M. Kruse of Bloomington and Heather K. Cook of Lansing, Kan.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Deborah E. Baker; a sister, Helen Maxwell; and two infant brothers.
