|Birth: ||Aug. 24, 1813|
|Death: ||May 22, 1895|
Her parents are George Washington Clack and Catherine Lindley. Mary was born and died in what was then Gwinnett County, as Barrow county was not created until 1914.
She mothered at least 13 children. After her husband died, with declining health and the area around her home sinking in quicksand, she moved to Carl.
Her obituary is listed in the weekly Gwinnett Herald under news from Carl, on Tuesday [5-28, Volume XXV, #14, p.3] and states:
Mrs. Mary Betts, aged about 82 years, was buried (sic) at Midway on the 28rd (sic) inat. She was seriously ill for some time and by no means were we surprised at her death, which occurred on Wednesday, 22nd, at 9 A.M. Thu (sic) funeral services were conducted by Rev. A. C. Cantrell to a large congregation, all of whom seemed sad to pay the last tribute of respect to such a noble and aged personage.
