April 12, 1910 marked the arrival of little Annie Laura, the third child of Alice Burch and William Walker Evans. She was a beautiful dark-haired baby but her life with the Evans was painfully short. She developed an acute infection – gastroenteritis – and even her father’s skill couldn’t save her. She died November 29,1910 at six and a half months. Walker’s son Walker Jr, Annie Laura's just older brother, use to say if she had been born today with the antibiotics we have available she would have lived. One of his earliest memories was of her funeral.
