Thrine Thomasdatter Hagerbakken was born July 24, 1836 in Vestre Toten, Oppland, Norway. In 1864, she married Hans Hanson "Berg" and three years later they immigrated to America in the company of her brother, Peter Thompson, and her sister, Eline. Her oldest brother, Hans Aas, remained in Norway but two of his sons also immigrated. Trine's brother, John, arrived in 1871 along with their mother, Maria Pedersdatter Sandnes. Her brother, Martin, was the last to come.
Trine helped Hans Berg pioneer the Red River Valley, building their log house and farming the land for 20 years before she died of cancer on November 16, 1884, at age 48.
