HUMBOLDT - LaToya Denise Cole Guyton, 25, of Jackson, was a single, Christian mother of four who was sweet, kind and loving, according to her family, friends, co-workers and former teachers. LaToya was born Oct. 13, 1982, in Trenton, Tennessee. She attendend Humboldt schools, receiving her G.E.D. in March 2007. She joined Antioch Missionary Baptist Church at an early age and later rededicated her life to Christ.

Funeral services for Guyton were held at Morning Star Baptist Church, 612 N. 12th Ave. Guyton's body was laid to rest in Rose Hill Cemetery following the service.

Guyton was missing from Dec. 9 to March 24, when her remains were found in Turk Creek in Pinson, Tennessee.

Frederick Lamont Moore, 38, Guyton's estranged boyfriend and father of two of her children, has been charged with first-degree murder. He is being held without bond.

The murder charge against Moore has been bound over to the grand jury. The next grand jury meets July 7.

At the funeral, one of Guyton's Humboldt Junior High School teachers spoke about how loved Guyton was.

"She was well loved, and you can tell that by the people who are here today," Guyton's former teacher said.

So many people attended Saturday's service that many people had to stand in the church's vestibule or outside.

The teacher added, "She was a wonderful person and a proud mother. I thank God for the enthusiasm LaToya had. You can see from the crowd here today that she touched all of our lives."

The Rev. Joseph O'Neal Montgomery, who officiated over Guyton's service, said he felt that Guyton's life was cut short.

"I think she had a whole lot of life left to live," he said. "We shouldn't let something like this happen and take it lightly. ... It could happen to anyone."

In a tribute to Guyton, Emma Davidson wrote, "So keep LaToya in your hearts forever, and she will live on.
Even though you loved her, God loved her more," the tribute said. "She left four beautiful angels here to be loved, cherished and to continue her legacy. LaToya, your sweet spirit shall abide in your little angels.

"Toya spent a lot of time with her four children, family and friends, whom she loved dearly," the obituary states. "Toya loved to have fun with her four children. She also loved to go shopping for the latest fashions. Toya loved to play pranks by changing her voice to make you think she was someone else."

Guyton was preceded in death by her grandmothers, Audrey Cole and Junita Guyton; grandfather, Willie Fitzgerald, and great-grandfather, Willie L. Cole Sr.

She is survived by her mother, Wanda Cole; father, Edward Guyton; four children, Griffin Deshun Patterson, Carisma DeSirea Cole, Are'Ayna Desjornae Moore and Frederick Lamont Moore Jr.,two sisters, Felicia Briana Guyton and LaKenya TaWanna Cole; two brothers, Edwin Deshun Hall and Brandon Dejuan Guyton; grandparents, Neal (Bessie) Hunt Sr.; great-grandmother, Allie B.
