Genevieve Lucille Ackerman
Genevieve Lucille Ackerman entered life on January 28, 1916, in Kettleston, Saskatchewan to Wiley H. and Etta Mae Chapman. She passed away on May 6, 2004 in Mtn. Mesa.
Genevieve ("Gene") moved to South Gate, Calif. from Canada with her parents in 1923 where she attended school. After high school she attended cosmetology school and opened a hair saloon in Maywood. While in Southgate she met Charles Dewitt Ackerman and was married in 1936. Gene moved to Huntington Park in 1950 with Charles, a chiropractor, and helped him open and run his practice as an office manager, nurse and physical therapist. In 1963 Gene and Charles retired and moved to Lake Isabella. They began raising and showing quarter horses with Joan Bailey, who became a life long friend. Gene was a member of the Eastern Star.
Gene was always there for her family who came first. She took care of Charles, her mother Etta and her brother-in-law Harry when they became ill. She was always there for anyone who needed help in any way. During her life she supported many, many charities from around the world with generous donations.
When Gene became ill in Sept. 2002, she spent 16 months in several hospitals. In January of 2004 Gene's great niece, Stephanie, moved into her house and brought her home from the hospital. Gene spent the next four months living in her own home with family and a new great-great niece, Nevaeh, who she loved with all of her heart. She enjoyed all of the things that she had missed during her many months in hospitals such as home cooked meals and going out to have her hair and nails done with "the girls."
Graveside services were held for Gene on Monday, May 14, 2004, 1 p.m. at the Kern River Valley Cemetery in Wofford Heights.
Genevieve Lucille Ackerman is survived by her daughter-in-law Cyrina Ackerman, grandsons Allan Mark and George Scott Ackerman, great grandchildren Alex, Austin and Maxwell Ackerman and her brother Athol W. Chapman and his wife Mary Ruth. Gene is also survived by her nephews H. Bradley Armstrong and his wife Judy and Brent W. Chapman and his wife Laura; her great nephews Christopher L. Armstrong, H. Brandon Armstrong, Shawn M. Chapman and Jair Rios; her great nieces Stephanie C. Armstrong and Shyra Chapman, and her great-great niece Nevaeh Mae Armstrong.
