US Navy Peacetime Medal of Honor Recipient. He served in the United States Navy as a Seaman on board the USS Petrel. He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery in an on-board incident on March 31, 1901. His citation reads “On board the U.S.S. Petrel for heroism and gallantry, fearlessly exposing his own life to danger in saving others on the occasion of the fire on board that vessel”. His Medal was issued on March 22, 1902. Marine Corps Private Louis F. Pfeifer and Seaman Alphonse Girandy also were awarded Medals of Honor for their bravery during the incident.
