A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 26, 2010, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in New Iberia for Lorence Hebert Lasseigne, 92, who passed away on Monday, August 23, 2010, in New Iberia.
Entombment will follow at Holy Family Mausoleum in New Iberia.
A devout Catholic, Mrs. Lasseigne was a member of the 3rd Order of the Carmelites, she was also a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church Altar Society. Her life's passion was family, music, and art; in which she found extreme joy. Her joy of music and art began at a very young age. She began singing as a teenager in the Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church Choir, in Weeks, LA, when the mass and hymns were in Latin. After relocating to New Iberia, she sang for many years in the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church choir. She unconditionally encouraged any form of learning, believing that knowledge and education was a privilege, a precious and powerful asset, and that a person was never too old to learn. She and her husband, Theophile, provided a lifetime of loving support and guidance to their four children and nine grandchildren. After his death, at the age of 67 in 1986, she continued to provide matriarchal wisdom and wit to the family as she was blessed with great grandchildren; whom she cherished and dearly loved.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Theophile Lasseigne; her parents, Jean Aristival and Clara H. Hebert; six brothers Luke, Uval, Del, Emar, Roy and Donald Hebert; five sisters Mae Peltier, Aline Fouquier, Irene Medver, Georgette Hebert and Leedee Larpenter; and a daughter-in-law Rhonda Lemaire Lasseigne; and a son-in-law Doyle Hebert.
