BIG CABIN, Okla. - Ralph W. Herman, 77, longtime Big Cabin resident passed away at his residence Friday, October 1, 2004. Ralph was born on July 28, 1927 in Waterville, Kan., to Joe and Effie (Taylor) Herman.
Ralph attended church at the First Baptist Church in Big Cabin. When Ralph was 18 he started work on the M.K. & T. railroad, then worked at Eastern State Hospital for a while and also Herman's Country Kitchen. He finally decided to make his career as a truck driver.
Ralph leaves as survivors, his first wife Dorothy Balthis of Vinita. Children; Karen Orr and husband Bill of Big Cabin, Kathy Rhodes of Adair, Mark Herman and wife Debee of California, Gary Herman and wife Areta of Adair, Jerry Herman and wife Mary of Vinita. Step children; Evelyn Tippton of Adair, Catherine Asbury of White Oak, Lary Ruckman of Vinita and Donnie Ruckman of White Oak. Seventeen grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren. One sister Marjorie Dye of Texas. Two brothers Fred Herman and wife Wanda of Vinita and Viola Taylor of Miami. One uncle Willie B. Taylor of Vinita, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Ralph was preceded in death by both of his parents, his second wife Willie Herman, stepson Ronnie Ruckman, two grandchildren; Roy Herman and Shawn Herman, one half brother and three half sisters.
Ralph's family will gather at Burckhalter Funeral Home on Tuesday evening October 5, 2004 from 6 to 7 p.m. to receive friends and relatives.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 6, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Big Cabin with Pastor Thom Duncan officiating. Serving as casket bearers will be grandsons Kenny Orr, David Herman, Jeremiah Herman, Christopher Herman, Bobby Rhodes and Ryan Herman. Honorary bearers will be Larry Hicks, Mitch Herman, Doug Herman, Stacy Herman, John Herman, Jim Herman, Dale Herman, Howard Herman and Kyle Dye and Robert Herman. Burial will follow at Bluejacket Cemetery.
The family is making donations in memory of Ralph to Trinity Hospice of Claremore and ask you do the same.
Arrangements are under the direction of Burckhalter Funeral Home of Vinita.
