During the Civil War, he enlisted in and was appointed or elected as Sargent of Company A, 63rd Alabama Infantry Regiment at Tuskegee, Macon County, Alabama. He continued until he was captured and taken to prison in April 1865. He was carried to Ship Island, Mississippi, and remained there until he was paroled at Meridian, Mississippi in May 1865.
He died in Notasulga, Macon County, Alabama on Aug. 31, 1932. He is buried next to his wife in the Notasulga City Cemetery, which is located in Notasulga, Macon County, Alabama.
