THANK YOU FOR YOUR TRIBUTES AND VISITS TO GRANDMA VIDA! SHE WAS A KIND AND GENTLE WOMAN WHO NEVER RAISED HER VOICE TO ANYONE. SHE DIED WHEN I WAS FIVE YEARS OLD AND I'VE MISSED HER SO MUCH. WE APPRECIATE ALL OF YOUR VISITS!
Vida Elma Fowler (Rhodes) was born on 8th of February, 1893 in Lamoni, Decatur County, Iowa. Her parents were Lewis August Fowler and Henrietta (Hattie) Brill Fowler.
She loved to sew and taught her daughters to be good seamstresses, often making their own clothes. She never learned how to drive a car and was happy having family around her. She enjoyed picnics and walks around Swope Park on sunny Spring and Summer days.
According to her daughter-in-law, she was the most amazing mother-in-law ever! Her words of praise meant a great deal to me.
Vida was baptised on 2nd September 1893 according to the RLDS Archives, Independence, Missouri. Vida was raised in a strong RLDS household. Her father was a stone mason and aided in the building of the Stone Church in Independence.
During her younger years, she was a telephone operator.
Vida passed away on October 9th, 1950 at home in Mission, Johnson County, Kansas.
The top photo on her memorial page is my favorite picture of Grandma Vida. We miss you, Grandma!
