MAYOR DIES
Charles H. Dougherty, mayor of Sheldon, passed away at the hour of three Friday afternoon, at the age of seventy-nine years, one month and one day. Mr. Doughterty was born at Hudson, Wisconsin and came here with his parents 63 years ago and settled on a farm in Floyd township, O'Brien county. He was married to Susan Beacom fifty-four years ago and engaged in farming. Later they went to Sheldon where Dougherty engaged in the real estate and insurance business. While on the farm, he was treasurer of the school board and was on the town council in Sheldon for four years when elected Mahor of the town. He served for two terms lasting in all for ten years. Mr. and Mrs. Dougherty have five children, four boys, John and Frank of Sheldon, James of Sioux Falls and Charles, Jr. of Portland, Ore. and a daughter, Mrs. G. M. Fisch of Rock Rapids, Ia. The funeral services were held at St. Patrick's church in Sheldon with Rev. Geo. Cook officiating. The choir rendered several selections and Dr. Meis sang two baritone solos, Panis Angelicus by Caesar Frank and the Lors Prayer by Cara Roma.
The active pallbearers were Wm. McAlpine, J.B. O'Donnell, Geo. Swenning, William P. Iverson, W.J. Roberts, H.B. Peterson. The honorary pallbearers were T. E. Diamond, J. Vander Meide, Matt McCabe, Joe Jam, Milo Sweeney and William Meyers. Internment was in St Patrick's cemetery.
