Obituary for John Fredrick Stainbrook, The La Cygne Journal, Volume 73, Number 6, Friday, July 2, 1943

Death of Pioneer Citizen.
John Fredrick Stainbrook, a well known citizen of this part of Linn County, who came here with his parents in 1866, died at his home in Parker (Osawatomie Graphic Obit has death as Burson Nursing Home in Paola) Friday of last week after an illness over a long period. Fred, as he was best known by all his friends, was 89 years old, most of which had been spent in Linn county. He left numerous friends and relatives to mourn his passing.
A funeral service was held Sunday afternoon at the Christian church in La Cygne . . . Burial was in 96 cemetery.
The following obituary was read: John Fredrick Stainbrook, son of Daniel and Mary Stainbrook, was born May 21, 1854, in Illinois, and departed this life June 25, 1943, at the age of 89 years 1 month and 4 days.
Mr. Stainbrook came to Linn county with his parents in 1866 and this community has since been his home.
On November 11, 1875, he was united in marriage to Mollie A. Long, who preceded him in death. To this union were born five sons, two of whom died in infancy. Another son, Daniel, passed away September 10, 1938. The other two sons, Aral and Harrison, survive and live in this community. He leaves also 15 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. Amanda Marmon of La Cygne and Mrs. B. W. Mendenhall of Okmulgee, Okla.
Mr. Stainbrook lived many years in this community and leaves many, many friends.
