Apolonia Tomechek (or Pomecheck) was born February 9, 1874 in Vnorovy, Czechoslovakia to Martin Tomechek and Caroline Verdik. She married Martin Benedik about 1899 in Vnorovy.
In 1913, she and her children joined Martin in Ohio. Two more sons were born after her arrival.
She died March 3, 1940 in North Baltimore, Wood County, Ohio and is buried in the New Maplewood Cemetery.
North Baltimore Woman Succumbs
Mrs. Apauline Benedict, 74, Invalid 20 Years; Rites are Tuesday
North Baltimore, March 3-Mrs. Apauline Benedict, 74, wife of Martin Benedict, died at 1:00 o'clock Sunday morning at her home here. She had been in invalid for the past 21 years.
A native of Czechoslovakia, she was born on Feb. 9, 1874, the daughter of Martin and Caroline Pomechek. She came to Ohio 22 years ago.
Surviving are seven children: Mrs. Frances Townsend, Frank, Martin and John Benedict, all of Toledo, Charles Benedict and Mrs. Anna Wirick, both of North Baltimore and Steven at home. There also are 18 grandchildren and a brother, Joe Tomechek, of New Bavaria.
Mrs. Benedict was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic church here where final rites will be conducted at 9 o'clock Tuesday morning with Rev. Fr. Curtin, pastor of the church, in charge. Interment will be in New Woodlawn cemetery.
The body was taken to the Rippeth funeral home and will be removed Monday noon to the residence where it will remain until time for services. Findlay Courier, March 4, 1940
