Ida Iva Helder was the daughter of John and Anna Helder. She and her twin sister, Ada Ava, were left motherless at the age of twenty months. They were cared for in the home of an uncle until other homes could be found for them. The little girls were taken into separate foster homes. Ida Iva was brought to Kansas with the David Fager family and they called her "Carrie". They lived in Willow Springs, Douglas County, Kansas. She met her future husband R. F. (Richard Franklin) Pellett when he went to work for her family. He was widowed and had a young son, Charles Waldo. They were married March 31, 1886 in Lawrence and had one daughter, Ada, in 1890. She joined the United Brethren church at Pleasant Grove, KS, in 1892. They lived in and around Douglas and Osage counties for several years while her husband worked at various jobs, including owning a grocery store. He was later hired at Haskell Indian Institute, where he was superintendent of the agricultural department. She resided in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Aral Stainbrook, rural La Cygne, for five years before her death at age 74. Because Ida was separated from her family when she was young, after she married she worked compiling her family's history. She had several scrapbooks with newspaper clippings recording family reunions, weddings, births, funerals, etc. She was quite the genealogist, besides being a devoted wife and mother.
