Frances Ann Corner
Frances Ann Corner, 71, Osawatomie, died Friday, Nov. 9, 2007, at her home.
She was born May 27, 1936, in Richmond, Mo., the oldest of the four children of Harold Jerard and Marian Harriett Gwin Black. She graduated in 1954 from Lane High School.
In 1954, she began working as a psychiatric aide at the Osawatomie State Hospital. After a short time, she transferred to the payroll department, where she worked for more than 42 years before retiring July 1, 1996.
On Dec. 31, 1954, she and Bertie L. Edwards were married in Paola. They made their home in Osawatomie and became the parents of four children. He died Dec. 10, 1965.
She and Jim Corner were married Oct. 2, 1970, in Lane. They made their home in Osawatomie and became the parents of one daughter. They were divorced in 1980.
She served twice on the Osawatomie City Council, from 1983 to 1989 and from 1991 to 1995. She volunteered at the Osawatomie Public Library, Chamber of Commerce, Bingo for Flood Relief and on the Public Safety Board.
Mrs. Corner was a member of the Osawatomie Wesleyan Church, Cadmus Grange and Friends of the Mentally Ill Foundation.
Survivors include her two sons, Jeff Edwards of Paola and Bert Edwards of Osawatomie; her three daughters, Cheryl Smith and Susan Hood, both of Osawatomie, and Pam Zwick of Paola; three brothers, Jerry Black of Kirksville, Mo., John Black of Liberal, Kan., and Richard Black of Osawatomie; eight grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren.
Services were Tuesday at the Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home in Osawatomie with burial in the Osawatomie Cemetery. Pallbearers were Nicole Zwick, Kenton Zwick, Ryan Zwick, D.J. Smith, Devan Smith, Aaron Edwards and Chrissy Edwards. Indy Hood was an honorary pallbearer.
