Elizabeth Smith was born into a Quaker family in Tennessee in 1812. Her family moved to Illinois in 1828 and were received into the Vermilion Monthly Meeting at Vermilion Grove.

Mrs. Elizabeth Brachall, wife of Martin Brachall, died of spotted fever on Monday, and her remains were taken to Georgetown on Tuesday for interment. Mrs. Brachall was born in Blount county, East Tennessee, January 15, 1812, and removed to Illinois at an early day. She has been associated with almost every benevolent enterprise which has been inaugurated since her residence here. She was a true friend to the poor and unfortunate, and will be deeply missed by all.

He came to Illinois and settled in Georgetown in 1831 and in 1833 he was married to Miss Elizabeth Smith. Of this union one daughter was born, who became the wife of Mr. Joseph Bailey. She passed to her reward about three years ago. In 1872 Mr. Brachall experienced the first great sorrow of his life in the death of his companion. Those who knew Mrs. Brachall speak of her as a pious, noble, Christian woman, a worthy helpmeet of a good man.
