Death: Mar. 13, 1847

JOHN SCOTT was born the 29th or 30th of May 1763 in York Co., Pennsylvania (in what is now Adams Co., Pennsylvania). He was the son of John Scott and Ann Creighton. He moved from York Co., Pennsylvania to Washington Co., Virginia in 1772, along with his parents. He enlisted from Washington Co., Virginia in May 1780, in Captain James Dysart's Company, Colonel William Gamble's Regiment, Virginia line of troops, serving one year; he was in the battles of King's Mountain and Wetzell's Mill. The family came to Sangamon Co., Illinois in 1824; removed to DeWitt Co., Illinois where he died 13th Mar 1847.

John is usually referred to as simply "John Scott" in documents, censuses, etc. He may have added the "Wilson" to his name himself later in life, to distinguish himself from other John Scotts who lived near him.
