Newkirk and Caroline Shugart. The youngest of four boys, Bob attended Fort Worth public schools and graduated from Paschal High School. He then went to Texas Christian University where he met the love of his life, Peggie Hancock. After three years at the university, he enlisted in the military serving for four years during World War II. Once discharged as a captain in the infantry, he completed his B.S. degree from TCU and married Peggie in 1947. They moved to Austin while Bob obtained his law degree from the University of Texas. An esteemed attorney, Bob enjoyed being a senior partner specializing in tax, probate, estate planning and corporate law. In addition to his impressive career, he actively gave back to his community. Bob was a member of the advisory committee of Adopt-A-School, a charter member and president for the Southside Optimist Club, governor of Optimist International, member of the board of Fort Worth Society for Crippled Children and Adults, Inc., secretary of Texas Christian Missionary Society Permanent Fund, member of the board and president of Camp Fire Girls and member of the YMCA Metropolitan Board. He also served on Overton Park Bank's board of directors and participated in Citizens on Patrol for his neighborhood. Bob's faith was always a cornerstone in his life. A member at University Christian Church, he served as chairman of the board and as a member of the official board and president of the Granville Walker Ministerial Scholarship Foundation. In his spare time, Bob love watching TCU football, the Dallas Cowboys and politics. He also treasured spending time with those he cared about. His social life was overflowing with dear childhood friends, college buddies and work colleagues. Weekly poker games with the guys on Tuesdays and a couple's group on the weekends became a way of life starting in 1956. Bob lived a full, blessed life with his beloved wife of 52 years, three daughters, seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, many wonderful friends and Penny (his dog). He will be dearly missed by those he left behind. The family would like to give special thanks to Community Hospice and caregivers for their kindness and care. In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Peggie, and his three brothers, William, Richard and James Newkirk. Survivors: Bob will be lovingly remembered by his 3 daughters, 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
