Dr. Marjorie Ducote

SHREVEPORT, LA- Marjorie Jane Ducote died on March 26, 2014, after a two-year battle with cancer. She was 66 years old. After graduating from Byrd High School in 1965, she got her bachelor's and master's degrees in Education, then a Master's and Doctorate degree in Library Science and Education from LSU.

Dr. Ducote touched many lives during her career with Caddo Parish Schools. She loved libraries, librarians, and children and were their greatest advocate. She always believed in and practiced truth, honesty, and fairness and chose not to be involved in that which was deceptive and hurtful to her peers, children, and those whom she supervised. She was a great example for librarians and is missed by those whom she worked with. All of her career was in Caddo Parish, serving at Caddo Heights, Ingersoll, and Stoner Hill elementary schools before becoming Supervsior of Libraries for the district in 1984. Jane was instrumental in obtaining federal grants to purchase computers for student use and led the way for automating all school libraries in Caddo Parish in the 1980's. Her commitment to libraries in Caddo was never failing, evident in her desire to be sure every school in the Caddo Parish system had a certified librarian, a standard which is still maintained today. Besides backing her school librarians in a professional manner, she had a great sense of humor while working with them. She served for twenty three years before her retirement in 2007.

Jane was a quiet, reserved lady who spent her life in the service of others. She helped her mother live to almost 102. She spent many vacations and holidays helping with her two nephews in California. Jane is survived by her sister June and brother-in-law Edward Meserve of Los Gatos, CA, nephews Douglas and Chad Meserve and their families.

As per her wishes, a simple private burial will be held in Centuries Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please donate a book to a public school library.
