Organized 13 January 1776 from Kent, Sussex and New Castle counties.
Entered Valley Forge in May 1776 with 321 men assigned and 203 fit for duty.
Left Valley Forge with 360 assigned and 211 fit for duty.
Battles: Chesapeake Bay, New York City, Northern New Jersey, Trenton-Princeton, New York 1777, Defense of Philadelphia, Philadelphia-Monmouth
Eldest son of Joseph Hazzard and grandson of Cord Hazzard of Stretcher's Island, Broadkill Creek, Sussex County, Delaware(who settled in Delaware in 1700).
Served Colonels Haslet and Halls Regiments until March 1778 when he resigned his commission, due to his hearing loss by the bursting of a shell during the attack by the British on Mud Island, below Philadelphia, Pa. in November of 1777.
