Young Bride Ends Own Life
Mrs. Edith Deus Finished High School Here Last Spring: Wed In July
Fort Worth, Sept. 20, (AP)
Mrs. Edith Deus, 19, a bride of 11 weeks, pawned engagement ring yesterday and bought a cheap pistol.
Last night she telephoned her husband, Eddie Deus, a musician, and said she was leaving him.
She wrote letters to him and to her mother.
Neighbors found the body of the pretty, red-haired young woman, clad in sport shorts, lying on the bed in her apartment, a bullet wound in her chest.
"She thought I didn't love her," said Deus, a guitar player in Lloyd Snyder's band now playing at the night club here.
Mr. and Mrs. Deus came here Friday night from Wichita Falls. She was the daughter of Mrs. Z.E. McCall, Amarillo.
Justice of the Peace Hal P. Hughes conducted an inquest and returned a verdict of suicide.
Graduated From High School Last Spring
Mrs. Eddie Deus, the former Miss Edith Brackett, was the daughter of Mrs. Z. E. McCall, 712 Harrison Street. She graduated from the Amarillo High School last spring.
She and Mr. Deus were married here the latter part of July just before the Snyder band left for an engagement in Wichita, Kansas. She returned here for a visit with her mother recently and left for Fort Worth to where the orchestra had moved, last week.
Mr. Deus is a native of Denver and had been in Amarillo for more than a year as a member of the Snyder orchestra.
She is survived only by her mother.
