|Death: ||Sep., 1851|
THIS CASE IS STILL BEING PROVEN, but here is the accumulating evidence in support so far:
This city record set places her in the same cemetery as her husband at a time that matches these other records:
Calver family vitals records list her by name as wife of Joseph Ashton McDaniel and cite their marriage date (20 Aug. 1830). Joseph's sister Elizabeth married William Goldson Calver, whose family accrued the records.
Calver records included the exact birth dates for all eight of the children of this Johanna and Joseph -- minus daughter Caroline who seems to be the daughter of Joseph with his second wife, Hannah, born after this Johanna had died.
The 1860 census shows Joseph as single, living in his brother Benjamin's home. When Joseph died, he was listed in the death record as currently married, while he was single in 1860 and the Philadelphia city directory for 1868 lists his widow as Hannah rather than Johanna. His child, Caroline, was listed as having a mother Hannah, not Johanna, and was born in 1863, after the census showing Joseph as single but after an interval practical for a remarriage just before she was born. Caroline also is in this same cemetery.
Joseph's cousin, Benjamin Tompkins Walton, married Alice Boyer, daughter of Jacob and Mary Boyer of Moyamensing, according to Byberry Walton genealogy. It seems likely that Alice and Hannah also were related. Joseph's mother was sister to Benjamin Tompkins Walton's wife Sarah Ashton - hence the middle name Ashton for this Hannah Boyer McDaniels's husband Joseph.
A death record of 1851 makes sense for this Johanna -- She shows in the census of 1850, her youngest child had just been born that year, and she would have been in her early 40s when she died.
In 1860 census, while her husband is living with his brother and his brother's family, Joseph and Johanna's children Edward and Louisa are living with Jacob and Sarah Boyer, presumably relatives of hers.
The death record fragment that guesstimated her name slightly off as Joanna "DANIELS" rather than McDaniel might similarly be off in guesstimating her at age 50 rather than early 40s, but the rest of the context seems apt.
