Birth: May 15, 1809
Death: Apr. 21, 1866

Son of John Bowman McDaniel and Hannah Ashton McDaniel

Husband of Joanna/Hannah Boyer McDaniel, daughter of a Jacob. (It is not yet clear whether this Joanna/Hannah relates to the Alice Boyer who married this Joseph's cousin on his Ashton side, who also was the daughter of a Jacob, married to Benjamin Tomkins Walton.)

Birth date comes from Calver family records shared with Redifers. His sister Elizabeth married William Goldson Calver. His sister Sarah married Simon Redifer.

His son Benjamin served in the Civil, became a clergyman and moved to Boston where his older brother Samuel Walton McDaniel was a Civil War chaplain, Unitarian clergyman and lawyer.

There were nine children by wife Johanna Boyer. Son John H. also served in the Civil War (That son John H.'s grave is not yet located but his wife, Caroline Sault, shows in Delaware's Brandywine Cemetery Findagrave, and their son John H. McDaniel, shows in Philadelphia's Kensington Union Cemetery Findagrave, that evidently is the same as this one). This Joseph also had four daughters: Mary, Sarah, Lewzia/Louisa and Caroline.

Evidently, Joseph remarried to a Hannah. His death record cites being married, when his first wife, Johanna Boyer had died. The 1868 Philadelphia directory lists a Hannah as widow of Joseph living at the same address that is on Joseph A.'s death record. The directory also lists a Leonard McDaniel at that address, which is a name not included in the 1850 census list of Joseph's children by Johanna or when Joseph lived with his brother Benjamin during the 1860 census. For Leonard to be old enough to have his own directory listing line by 1868, he likely was an older child of second wife Hannah's, adopted by Joseph, or a nephew.
