Birth: Sep. 2, 1769
Philadelphia
Philadelphia County
Pennsylvania, USA
Death: Mar. 28, 1837

The following from The David Family Scrapbook by Bruce David:

He was born in the house built by his grandfather, Daniel Harrison, on the northwest corner of Fourth and Commerce Streets in Philadelphia. After the death of his mother in 1772, Owen moved with his father and his orphaned children into their smaller house at 708 First Street, where he lived until 1794, the year after the death of his father. This house, still standing in 1960, was also built by Daniel Harrison.

Following the sale of the Philadelphia property, Owen set out westward to join his brother and sister in Fayette Co., PA, but tarried halfway to his destination to visit with friends in Bedford (now Franklin)County, where on 1 Oct 1795, at Little Cove, he married Margaret John.

Owen had learned the trade of wheelwright, but did not follow that occupation; instead he became a farmer, a schoolteacher, and was ordained as a Seventh Day Baptist preacher by the Woodbridgetown Church on June 1,1795. In the year 1800, Owen moved his family to Crawford Co.,PA, where he acquired a two hundred acre tract of land (Sect.69) in the southeastern corner of what is now Cussewago Township.

In May 1802, his wife, Margaret, died, leaving a family of four very small children, who were dispersed and raised by friends in Crawford and in Fayette Counties. Owen David sold portions of his farm, but continued to live alone on the remainder.

In 1804, he taught the first school in Cussewago Township, continuing to teach for many years in the locality and in Saegertown. He occasionally preached to rural congregations. He volunteered in the War of 1812, and served as chaplain of the 137th Regiment of Pennsylvania Militia on duty at Erie, PA, to prevent an anticipated invasion by the British.

Owen died at the age of 76 as a result of an accidental fall from his horse while returning from an extended visit with friends and relatives in Fayette County. He was buried nearby in a small burying-ground on the Pepper farm, now owned by Paul Havrilesko, on Route 62095 (noted in 1961). In 1941 the original field stone marked O.D.1837, was supplemented by the erection of a U.S. War Department memorial.
